Oklahoma Self Defense Act & Basic Firearms Owning a handgun is easy. Understanding when, where, and how you can lawfully use it to protect yourself is considerably more important. This 8 hour Oklahoma Self Defense Act course goes beyond simply completing the training required to apply for an Oklahoma handgun license. It combines Oklahoma firearms law, responsible armed self defense, firearm safety, handgun fundamentals, and live fire training into a practical foundation for anyone who keeps or carries a firearm for protection. Your instructor, Bobby Brawdy, brings nearly two decades of real-world experience involving armed fugitive apprehensions, home searches, high-risk encounters, private investigations, and close protection. That experience changes the conversation. The goal isn't simply to tell you what the law says or teach you how to put rounds on paper. It's to help you understand the responsibility, limitations, judgment, and capability that come with choosing to own or carry a firearm for self-defense. You'll learn the requirements of the Oklahoma Self Defense Act, firearm safety and handling, handgun fundamentals, considerations surrounding defensive firearm use, and the realities that exist beyond the shooting range. Whether you're a new handgun owner, considering carrying for personal protection, or simply want a stronger understanding of Oklahoma firearms law and defensive handgun fundamentals, this class is designed to give you a foundation you can actually build on. Successful completion satisfies the applicable training requirements for the Oklahoma Self Defense Act Permit. Important Information • Attendance at the full classroom session and the live-fire qualification is a statutory requirement to receive a certificate. • Class size is limited and registration is required in advance Firearms & Safety Policy •There will be no live ammunition handled in the classroom. •No firearms will be handled in the classroom. •Live-fire will occur only at the range under range safety procedures. What to Bring • A reliable handgun suitable for qualification • Eye and ear protection • Ammunition for qualification (50 rounds minimum) • Government-issued photo ID Each student must enroll separately. Students must be 21 years of age and eligible to carry a firearm. Recording is not allowed.
